Pig Abattoir & Non-Malay Rights

There is hardly any connection between a pig abattoir, pork and non-Malay (read: Chinese) rights. When asked to state my position on the recent demolition of the only pig abattoir in Kedah, I would like to ask the parties concerned to put health, environment and cleanliness at the top of their priority list.

I have seen a picture of the abattoir. The condition was appalling and dirty. Pork sellers and distributors who were using the facility should not merely focus on profit taking. They should work out with the state government to set up a clean, modern and environmentally friendly facility to conduct their business.

To those politicians who are fighting to keep the abattoir, please stop relating it to my right. Mind you, pork is not the only source of protein to the Chinese. Many of us would not mind substituting pork for another white meat.

It is time for our pork industry to clean up their act and stop turning this into a race or religious issue. The fact is we would not have been able to see pork on sale or eat pork freely had it been truly a religious issue.

These politicians have been left behind by a time-warp. These race-based issues were supposed to have been left nehind by Pakatan after 080308 but it seems some of them are in a daze.

And to further fan the fire, he (Thomas Su) now talks about Indian temples and Chinese temples to be demolished by MBAS...

Hey Thomas, wake up, this is new Malaysian politics and Pakatan is supposed to have left the race-based politics behind.

All the chinese should give up pork and take beef and mutton. That will make the beef and mutton prices shoot up the roof. Perhaps then the malays will be happy.

Firstly if it is illegal it is illegal and proper action needs to be taken.
Secondly we see many illegal structures are built and allowed to remain for a long time before action is taken. And this usually creates problem such as this. Why can't the authority nip the bud.
The authority cannot abstain themselves of the responsibility.

DAP, PKR, MCA and Gerakan clowns are playing their usual political games for the less educated in Kedah, and at the expense of Chinese. How low can they go?

I fully subscribe to your argument. It's not just pig abattoir but those places that rear and slaughter animals for consumption as well. They should follow those who upgraded their facilities especially those in the chicken processing business where cleanliness and hygienic practices are in place. It's time we take good care of our environment. But like everything else, anything that the politicians touched are turned into politics.

Very much agree with you!!! It is about cleanliness!!! politicians please wake up!!!
Either pigs, cows or whatever animals that Malaysians love to eat-so be it but keep it clean.

I'll say the pig rearing should be put to zero just like in Chinese majority city state of Singapore. However, this should only be done with the govt providing proper compensation program such as pig for goat, 3 pigs for a cow etc. That way, while the demand for mutton and beef may increase due to no more supply of pork, the supply also increases thus minimizing any possible price increase of mutton and beef.

To demolish pig farm, temple, kuil etc are some of the typical examples done by the previous government and had cause severe suffering, frustration etc to this minority rakyat.

This is basically not in line with minority human right being provided under the equitable rule of law in this country and internationaly. Besides, it is aslo against the teaching of of all the four great religions in this world. To bully rakyat especially minority or OKU or helpless or handicapped people is greatest sin at all time. Should not be compromised for this inhuman altitude.

It is sad that these activities still being continually being carried our by present PR government and also it heappend in this modern society. Shame on the PR leader itself.

Look like, it is a kind typical "hooligan virus" found widely in the politician leaders. Malaysian are still living in the stone age civilisaton. Also PR is a copy-cat and inherit this virus administration of previous government. When is PR is going to use the new and stronger anti-virus software to wipe of this virus from the system?

PR have to be different. Stand-up for the people human right ie discontinue all these demolish practices immediately. If there is need to demolish, look on relocation and do it sysmatically without creating hardship, difficulty, frustration, anger etc to the rakyat. By doing so, problem or racist or religion tensions can be diverted and control easily. A great Leader create everyones a winner. Basic rule and common sense, do not use unreasonable force to get thing done and think outside the box strategy

This is what we call skillful in Change Management capability. It is time for PR leader to be excellant change agent and dare to be different for bring great happiness and benefit to rakyat.

Looking forward and high hope for PR leader to one in the near future.

I think DAP made the wrong move here. It's an illegal abattoir and how can they defend something that's illegal? It's better if they fight to have a alternative venue.

Anyway, this episode still shows that race politics is still very much alive in the PR. Any sensitive issues will sure cause an eruption! It's high time the PR sits down and work on a common platform. If this is to continue, BN reign will continue....

The fact that it is an illegal abattoir is reason enough for it to be abolished. How can anything illegal be left to operate for so long? Is it because during the BN adminstration, bribes upon bribes were given to keep it open? The Chinese who supported Pakatan shld ask for this illegal operations to be shut down and relocated. Don't be selfish.

The fact that it is dirty and disgusting is another reason for it to close.

The fact that it is only 100m from the market frequented by Muslim is yet another reason why, out of respect for Muslims, it should be closed and relocated.

Why the big fuss? If the pig rearing and distribution industry is not going to shape up and continue to be dirty and unenvironmentaly friendly, I support for it to close, albeit I eat pork.

Politicians should not wrong the government if what is being done is for the good of the consumers and the sellers. In the case of this particular abattoir it is a threat to public health. And should therefore be moved away. Politicians should not aggravate the issue, instead they should help to clarify it.

i agree...i am chinese and i dont eat pork..

DAP, PKR, PAS...i thought you guys are totally different from BN but perhaps some of you should quit pakatan and walk over to BN coz they are more your style..!!

Many of the comments are "I don't eat pork". The issue here has nothing to do with eating pork! Just like it has nothing to do with Chinese Right.
The solution the DAP should fight for is to find another suitable site for the abatoir. If the state Govt refuse, then DAP can make a lot of noise!

Demolished activities affected the minority rakyat does not happen in Kelantan (correct me if I am wrong). Tok Guru Nik Aziz is a man of great wisdom and he managed it as leader who protect, safeguard and respecting the minority rakyat right being provided our country rule of law. Nobody in the Malaysia should be marginalized by any local government. This is proven in Kelantan.

It is time for MB Kedah to learn and seek advice from Tok Guru ie how to handle any demolished activities before it was executed. Bottom line is, any demolished activities should certain meet certain expectation and benefit that affected the victim itself. Win some and lose some rule apply.

All this while I have high respect for PAS ruling in Kelantan. It is shock it happen in PAS Kedah. MB Kedah re-look at your policy and can you copy the same administrative and policy model from Kelantan PAS. Use PAS Kelantan formula for Kedah and live up the standard for “PAS for All” idealogy.

Failing which, PAS credential shall eroded down the road and conversely, fear factor towards PAS on the voter shall be the deciding factor of GE 13 voting trend. PAS, stop this fear factor now before it get too late, sebelum Nasi sudah jadi bubur.

Do you think MB Kedah will really investigate the allegation by DAP?

Kedah Gerakan Youth Urges MB To Investigate DAP's Allegation

ALOR SETAR, July 6 (Bernama) -- Kedah Gerakan Youth today called on Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak to set up an independent body to investigate the DAP's allegation that the state government would demolish some Hindu and Chinese temples in the state.

Its head Tan Keng Liang said Azizan should do this immediately to prove whether the allegation was true or not.

"This is a serious allegation and the outcome of the investigation should be announced to the public," he told Bernama here today.

He said Azizan should not dilly-dally by saying that he himself did not know of the alleged state government's decision to demolish Hindu and Chinese temples.

Azizan was also reported to have said that the DAP was trying to incite racial hatred towards the PAS-led state government.

Recently, Kedah/Perlis DAP chairman Thomas Su repeated his claim that he had proof of the government's decision to demolish some Hindu and Chinese temples.

He said the Menteri Besar should take the matter seriously and not accuse the DAP of inciting racial hatred by raising the issue.

The Kedah DAP also recently made a shocking announcement of withdrawing from the Pakatan Rakyat state government over alleged unfair treatment of the DAP in the pact and the demolishment of a pig abattoir in Taman Berjaya here by the Alor Setar City Council.
